Jeremiah 29:1-11, Matthew 2:1-12

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

“In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9

I welcome you to a year of renewed faith! Turning the calendar to a new year often fills us with a sense of hope and possibility. It’s a chance to reflect on the past and prepare for what lies ahead. However, many of us carry the weight of past mistakes, regrets, or disappointments that hold us back from fully stepping into the new opportunities God has prepared for us. The Bible reminds us that God is always at work, bringing renewal and transformation into our lives. In Isaiah 43:18-19, God calls His people to forget the former things and look forward to the new things He is doing. Just as the Israelites needed to trust in God’s promise of deliverance, we, too, must trust Him to lead us into a brighter future.

Today’s message challenges us to release the past, embrace God’s work, and walk forward in faith, trusting God’s perfect plan. As we stand at the threshold of a New Year, the unknown stretches before us like a blank canvas. Questions about what lies ahead may stir excitement but can also spark uncertainty or fear. Yet, Jeremiah 29:11 assures us of a foundational truth: God knows the plans He has for us, and those plans are good. In a world where personal plans often shift or fail, this promise invites us to place our trust in God’s perfect will.

As we navigate the New Year, let us seek God’s direction and embrace His purpose for our lives with unwavering confidence because:

a) God’s Plan is Good. Jeremiah 29:11 was spoken to the Israelites during their exile in Babylon—a time of uncertainty and hardship. Even then, God reminded them that His plans were for their ultimate good, not harm.

Imagine a master weaver crafting a beautiful tapestry. Up close, the threads may look chaotic, but from the weaver’s perspective, every thread serves a purpose in the grand design. Similarly, God is weaving our lives into a masterpiece for His glory.

Take a moment to reflect on how God has made good out of challenges in the past. Write down these thoughts as reminders of His faithfulness when facing future uncertainties.

b) God’s Timing is Perfect: While God’s plans are good, they unfold according to His timing, not ours. Often, impatience leads to frustration, but Proverbs 16:9 reminds us that while we plan, it is the Lord who establishes our steps.

Take a moment to think of planting a seed. The process of growth cannot be rushed. The seed must be watered, nurtured, and given time to sprout. In the same way, God’s plans grow in His time, requiring our patience and trust.

Commit to prayer and quiet reflection in moments of waiting. Use delays as opportunities to grow in faith and dependence on God.

Our Response is needed: God’s plans require our active participation. Jeremiah 29:12-13 calls us to seek Him with all our hearts. We become partners in His divine purpose when we align our desires with His will.

Remember that a GPS guides us to our destination, but we must follow its instructions to arrive. Likewise, God provides direction, but we must listen and obey.

Start the year by setting aside daily time for prayer, Bible study, and journaling to discern God’s guidance. Be open to God’s redirection, even when it challenges your preferences.

As we enter this New Year, let us rest in the truth that God’s plans are always for our good. His timing is perfect, and He invites us to participate in His purpose. Instead of striving to control every detail of our future, we can trust the One who sees the big picture.

Remember the Israelites’ crossing of the Red Sea. God made a way where there was none, proving that trusting God leads to miraculous breakthroughs.

By seeking God daily and walking in obedience, we position ourselves to experience the hope, joy, and prosperity He promises. With God as the architect of our lives, we can move forward into the New Year with confidence and peace, knowing that God’s plans will prevail.
